Cooking Up A Storm

So the saying goes: When the man is away, the girl will play :). Rhys left for an away game on Thursday so Thursday night I had S and her girl M over for dinner. Since it was my first dinner party at the new place, I spent the day cleaning, building our new barstools (which I am already in love with) and buying place-mats and a centrepiece for the table. On request from S, I made tacos. They don't get a lot of raw vegetables nor mince meat where they're living so it was a luxury for them. For dessert, I just made an easy fruit salad with an amazing passionfruit yoghurt on top and lots of wine to go with :). Had a great night talking about everything you can imagine that girls talk about - could have possibly been an episode of Sex and the City.

The next day, Friday, I was getting ready for my next dinner party. You have to find things to do when you're unemployed :). This time, it was the WAGs coming over for dinner. (If you haven't read my earlier posts, shame on you and WAG=Wives and Girlfriends (of the basketball team)). We were 5 in total and our dinner table is actually for 4 and only had 4 chairs and I had only bought 4 place-mats so back to IKEA it was to buy another two place-mats, not complaining though, I feel at home at IKEA (funny since it is decorated as a home). Then I also found a cheap foldable chair to add to the end of the table - quick temporary solution.

I was in the kitchen for most of the day, made Pannacotta in the morning for it to stale by dinner time to have for dessert and then prepared Lasagna for the main meal, which when I told Rhys I was making that he said "Oh, are you sure? That is really difficult to make. A lot of people make it too hard and chewy." Thanks for the encouragement! I haven't made Lasagna for maybe 10 years and NEVER made Pannacotta so I was a wee bit nervous and when my recipe said the Lasagna should be in for 15-20mins and the box with the Lasagna sheets said 40mins, I started to sweat a bit but since Rhys said that a lot of people make it too hard so then I went with the Lasagna sheets time of 40 mins and it turned out great! So actually thanks for the help Rhys :). Served with a green salad with cherry tomatoes and red onion. And then the Pannacotta for dessert with Strawberry sauce and fresh blueberries and strawberries on top :).

Since I'm such a great girlfriend, I made extras for my man for when he comes home today.

Apparently, I love cooking when it turns out well and is appreciated. The WAGs are all so great and so sweet. We had a great time and I believe it will be a fun season.

Sorry I don't have any photos to add to this boring post about cooking - the cooking was too stressful and took all of my attention :).
