I thought I would never see the day. I've been thinking more and more lately that I am quite the city girl by feeling right at home in big cities like London but these last couple of days, I have noticed that I have a little bit of a country side too. I have actually started a veggie garden! Rhys has been wanting to start one for years and always been talking about it when we get a house that he will start one but I always thought it is a waste of time and for old people who don't have much to do. Now in a house with a little backyard, I actually found interest in starting a little veggie garden.
It all started while shopping in a little fresh vegetable and fruit store. I bought fresh basil and the lady at the counter said that it was the kind that can be planted and will keep growing and I thought "Imagine being able to have fresh basil ALL the time and it won't go bad". Loved the idea! Then I started thinking how I would love to have fresh flowers in the house all the time but it is so expensive then realised I could grow my own flowers as well.
After a walk on the beach with C, a fellow WAG, and her golden retriever Walter this morning, we walked to her place where I realised that she is quite the gardener and has lots of seeds that she needs to get rid of so she gave me seeds for chillies (Rhys' favourite), capsicum (peppers), beans, strawberries, mint and oregano. Some great tips and a taste of her fresh carrot that she just pulled out of the ground, I was hooked.
The fresh basil planted in it's pot.
I have officially been domesticated!
After all my hard work, I am ready to start Saturday night with a well deserved glass of red wine and join in the Australian festivities by watching the Australian footy semi-finals.
Go Swannies!
